AMENDING THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF CANADA’S CONSTITUTION TO BRING THE POLICY PROCESS BACK TO THE GRASSROOTS!
At the 2015 Conservative Party of Canada convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, Jim successfully led a campaign to have the party constitution amendment to restore the party’s policy process back to its grassroots members. In the party’s prior convention in Calgary, a section of the party constitution was added that gave the Conservative Party caucus the right to delete sections of the party’s policy declaration without a vote of delegates at convention. Jim’s constitutional amendment received the necessary double majority (a majority of delegates from a majority of provinces) and passed. Because of the double majority requirement, few constitutional amendments end up being successful at the Conservative Party’s conventions.
